Irwin, Corinaldi register wins in St James U-13 tourney

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Irwin Primary and Corinaldi Avenue both scored wins yesterday as the quarter-finals of the St James Football Association VMBS Under-13 competition continued with two games at the UDC Field.Oshane Morgan scored a hat-trick for Irwin as they beat Vaughnsfield Primary 5-0 in a Group Two game that also saw Alwayne Reid get a double, after former winners Corinaldi Avenue Primary had edged Flankers Primary 1-0 in the first game.

They joined defending champions Granville Primary and Success Primary, who both scored wins on Friday as the second round got underway.

Demar Peterkin scored twice for Granville Primary in their 4-0 win over Hemmingay Prep with Leo Campbell and Kareem Smith both getting one goal each in the Group One game.

Shawn Kitson’s goal carried Success Primary to a 1-0 upset win over former champions Mt Salem Primary in their Group Three game.

Twelve schools qualify for the second round, first and second from each of the six first-round groups and they will play two games each in four groups with the group winners qualifying for the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Mt Salem Primary and Hemmingay Prep, will seek to atone for Friday’s losses when the quarter-final round continues this morning.

Mt Salem will face St James Prep in the first game, while Hemingway take on Chetwood Memorial Primary in the second game.
