Each year, VMBS awards a variety of scholarships and bursaries to GSAT students; those pursuing tertiary education and final-year teachers in the quest to upgrade their skills. This year, VMBS has awarded scholarships, bursaries and grants to 61 recipients, an increase of more than 100 per cent from last year.

These have been allocated as follows: VMBS GSAT 'Head-Start' Bursary - 53 recipients, VMBS Junior Plan 'Head-Start' Scholarship - three recipients, VMBS Future Plan 'Head-Start' Scholarship - three recipients, and the VMBS Master Plan 'Head-Start' Scholarship, with the beneficiary being a 'Master Plan' saver pursuing final-year studies at a local university.

The Head-Start scholarship programme forms part of the company's Schools Savings Programme that was designed to reward excellence in student savers. The programme presents several opportunities for students who save while they pursue their education to qualify for scholarships, bursaries and grants.

Since 1987, VMBS has granted in excess of 1,600 scholarships and bursaries to students at all levels of the educational system. VMBS has also made special scholarship awards each year to Jamaica Teachers' Association member teachers pursuing final-year studies in tertiary institutions.
